EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA– The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Eastern Pennsylvania District Office is accepting applications for its 2015 Emerging Leaders executive-level training initiative (formerly known as e200). Companies from Philadelphia, the City of Chester, Norristown, and Pottstown that have been in operation at least 3 years and have minimum annual revenue of $300,000 are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is Wednesday, February 18, 2015.

The interview and selection process begins in February for fifteen (15) available slots. Applicants should apply immediately for consideration.  Qualified businesses interested in the program can register at http://www.interise.org/sbaemergingleaders. For more information about Emerging Leaders go to www.sba.gov/emergingleaders or contact Solomon Wheeler 610-382-3077.

The classes begin in early April 2015, and run through October 2015, Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The seven-month executive leader curriculum includes approximately 100 hours of classroom time per participant, and provides the opportunity for small business owners to work with experienced mentors, attend workshops, and develop connections with their peers, city leaders, and financial communities.  Since 2008 the initiative has trained promising small business owners in underserved communities across the country and continues to expand its impact helping small businesses grow and create jobs.

“There are Emerging Leader success stories to be proud of right here in the mid-Atlantic region. I’ve seen how the program equips graduates with the tools and the know-how to take their business to the next level, and perhaps become the next Nike, Staples, Apple, Federal Express, Ben & Jerry’s, Outback Steakhouse, or Hewlett-Packard – who all received SBA loans as startups,” said Regional Administrator Natalia Olson-Urtecho.

Sixty-seven percent of surveyed Emerging Leaders participants reported an increase in revenue, while 75 percent reported maintaining or creating new jobs in their communities.  Surveyed participants also report securing more than $26 million in new financing for their businesses, and an increase in confidence when applying for government contracts.  As a result, nearly half of the initiative graduates reported securing federal, state and local contracts, worth more than $330 million.

“Philadelphia’s Emerging Leaders program has a proven track record of helping small businesses in underserved communities,” said Tony Leta, Director, Eastern Pennsylvania District. “Graduates of the program have increased their revenue, created jobs and helped drive economic growth in their communities. This year’s class builds on this success and provides even more entrepreneurs in underserved communities with the support, resources and skills to succeed.”
