Elsie Bowen, 55, chose to follow her dreams after being laid off from her nursing job, and decided to open Precious Jewels Day Care in Philadelphia. She was interviewed for the website Over50andOutofWork.com, in which she discusses how she gained the skills she needed to become an entrepreneur by attending WORC’s Start Smart Program, which taught her how to formulate a business plan and market herself effectively, among other things. “There is such fulfillment in being your own boss,” she says. Her inspiring story shows that it is never too late to follow your own dreams and start your own business. See her video interview here, and read more about the Start Smart program on WORC’s website.
